Have you heard?
Google has announced that they will start to use whether your website is mobile friendly as part of their ranking process. If your website isn't mobile friendly, you'll likely lose your current Google ranking, especially if your competition does have a mobile website. This is one of the most important updates to Google’s algorithm, so it’s time to take action.
Testing Your Website
If you’re unsure of your website’s mobile device performance, click here to use Google’s Mobile-Friendly Test. If your website passes Google’s test, it shouldn't lose any ranking. But, if it doesn’t pass the test, you should consider beginning the process of building a new website that is mobile friendly, and especially, responsive.
Responsive Design vs. Separate Mobile Website
Solar Energy Marketing believes in responsive web design. Responsive websites are built on a framework that responds to the size of the browser that it is being viewed on—whether it's a smart phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer. Responsive web design benefits include:
- Having only one website
- A positive and consistent user experience
- Website updates only need to take place once
Having a separate mobile website isn’t favored by search engines, websites updates will need to be made in more than one place, and user experience will most likely be different. With people using multiple devices to view the same websites, a consistent user experience is key to avoiding frustrated customers.
When is Google starting this change?
In their blog post, Google announced that this change will begin on April 21, 2015 and that it “will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results.” The sooner you take action for your solar company, the better off your business will be in the world of Google—it's time to go mobile.
